Chile: Business confidence tumbles in December
Business confidence fell to 46.5 in December from November’s 49.0. December’s result marked the weakest sentiment since August 2020, and was potentially driven by leftist Gabriel Boric’s victory in the presidential elections. As a result, the index remained below the 50-point threshold, indicating sustained pessimism among businesses.
December’s reading was driven by a weakening in sentiment in the construction, industrial and retail sectors, while sentiment in the mining sector was unchanged.
