Bulgaria: Inflation hits highest level in nine years in September

Consumer prices rose 0.40% in September over the previous month, coming in below the 0.77% increase recorded in August. September’s result marked the softest rise in prices since June. Looking at the details of the release, the change in the prices for transport fell sharply. In contrast, prices for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased.

Inflation came in at 4.8% in September, up from August’s 3.7%. September’s reading was the highest inflation rate since September 2012. Annual average inflation rose to 1.7% in September (August: 1.3%). Lastly, harmonized inflation rose to 4.0% in September, from the previous month’s 2.5%.
