Belgium: Inflation accelerates in September from August
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices increased 2.7% on a year-on-year basis in September, following a 2.6% increase in the prior month.
Relative to the previous month’s data, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+3.1% on a year-on-year basis vs +2.8% in August), transportation (+1.9% vs +0.9% in August), recreation (+1.0% vs +0.4% in August) and restaurants and hotels (+4.4% vs +3.7% in August). In contrast, price pressures reduced for housing and utilities in September (+4.1% vs +5.5% in August).
Meanwhile, consumer prices rose 2.1% in annual terms in September, following a 1.9% increase in the prior month.
Lastly, harmonized consumer prices fell 0.32% in September in month-on-month terms, following a 1.50% increase in the prior month.
