Belarus Inflation July 2021

Belarus: Inflation moderates in July

August 10, 2021

Consumer prices rose 0.07% from the previous month in July, which was below the 0.65% increase seen in June.. July's result marked the softest rise in prices since May 2020. The deceleration was broad base, with prices in non-food goods and services both decelerating, while prices for food goods declined.

Inflation inched down to 9.8% in July, following June’s 9.9%. Annual average inflation rose to 7.9% in July (June: 7.5%).

Looking forward, elevated inflation over the past couple months forced the Central Bank to hike interest rates in July, which should tamp down on price pressures ahead.

FocusEconomics analysts project inflation to average 8.9% in 2021, which is up 0.7 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2022, the panel sees inflation averaging 7.2%.
