Belarus: Industrial activity drops at sharpest rate since May in December

January 19, 2021

Industrial output dropped 0.7% in year-on-year terms in December, which was a deterioration from November's 4.3% increase. The outturn marked the worst reading since May. December’s reading was driven by weaker mining and energy output.

Meanwhile, the trend pointed down, with the annual average variation of industrial production coming in at minus 0.7%, down from November's minus 0.3% reading.

FocusEconomics panelists project that industrial production will increase 1.0% in 2021, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s projection. In 2022, industrial output is seen increasing 2.7%.
