Austria: Inflation ebbs in September from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices increased 3.9% on a year-on-year basis in September, following a 4.1% increase in the prior month.
Relative to the previous month’s data, there were milder price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+3.7% on a year-on-year basis vs +5.0% in August) and recreation (+2.6% vs +3.4% in August). In contrast, there were more notable price pressures for transportation (+2.8% vs +1.6% in August) and restaurants and hotels (+5.5% vs +5.2% in August). Finally, the variation in housing and utilities prices was the same as in the prior month (+7.8% in September and August).
Meanwhile, consumer prices rose 4.0% on a year-on-year basis in September, following a 4.1% increase in the prior month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices were unchanged in September on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.32% rise in the prior month.
