Austria: Industrial production falls in August

Industrial production in Austria fell 2.3% month-on-month in August, down from the revised 0.1% drop in July (previously reported: -0.3% month-on-month). The latest nosedive in output was broad-based with contractions in all use categories. Energy generation dropped markedly while output in non-durable consumer goods also fell at a rapid pace.

Meanwhile, industrial output swung from a revised 1.8% year-on-year increase in July (previously reported: +2.3% year-on-year) to a 0.4% decrease in August. Annual average industrial production growth, meanwhile, eased to 3.8% from 4.0%

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will increase 1.2% in 2020, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2021, the panel expects that industrial production will grow 1.6%.
