Angola: Inflation at two-year low in February

Consumer prices in the province of Luanda rose 1.12% in February from the previous month, coming in below January’s 1.39% month-on-month increase. According to the National Statistical Institute (Instituto Nacional de Estadística), February’s print was driven by an across-the-board increase, with prices for all components of the index rising. The leisure, recreation and culture; health; and clothing and footwear were the components that increased at the sharpest pace. In turn, communication recorded the smallest month-on-month increase in February.
Inflation in the province of Luanda moderated from 25.2% in January to 23.4% in February, the lowest print since February 2016. Lastly, annual average inflation declined from 30.5% in January to 29.5% in February, the lowest reading in over a year.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation of 21.1% in 2018, which is up 2.5 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2019, the panel foresees inflation of 14.7%.
