Angola: Inflation falls to a near two-year low in August
Latest reading: Inflation came in at 18.9% in August, down from 19.5% in July, easing for the 13th consecutive month and marking the lowest rate since November 2023. Softer price pressures for food—accounting for over half of the consumer price basket—drove the result. Improved goods supply and the kwanza’s greater stability, supported by Central Bank intervention in the FX market, outweighed upside pressures from rising diesel prices following lower fuel subsidies.
Consequently, the trend eased, with annual average inflation ticking down to 24.0% in August from 25.0% in July.
Finally, consumer prices rose 1.09% in August over the previous month, which was below the 1.47% increase logged in July, and marked the weakest reading since May 2023.
