GDP in Cambodia
Cambodia - GDPThe Cambodian economy is expected to decelerate slightly in 2016 to 6.9% from the 7.0% expansion registered in 2015. In the last few years, growth has been fueled by a strong garment sector, real estate and construction activity, which have offset weaker growth in other important sectors like agriculture and tourism. On 1 December, during the Cambodia-China Business Forum, Cambodian conglomerate LYP Group and Chinese property developer CMIG signed a USD 1.5 billion deal to develop the Cambodia-Chinese “Friendship City”, a 2,000-hectare satellite city north of the capital. In the political arena, opposition leader Kem Sokha was released from prison and allowed to return to Parliament after receiving a royal pardon—a decision that could help alleviate political tension in Cambodia.
