Mexico: Inflation dips to lowest level since October 2021 in January
Consumer prices increased 0.59% from the previous month in January, picking up from the 0.36% increase logged in December. The reading was largely driven by increasing prices for food, beverages and tobacco. In addition, price pressures for housing rebounded.
Inflation came in at 7.1% in January, which was down from December’s 7.4% but still well above the Central Bank’s 3.0% target. January’s reading marked the weakest inflation rate since October 2021. Annual average inflation rose to 6.0% in January (December: 5.7%). Lastly, core inflation rose to 6.2% in January, from December’s 5.9%.
