Italy Economic Sentiment September 2020

Italy: Business confidence continues to improve in September

September 25, 2020

The National Institute of Statistics (Istat)’s composite business confidence indicator (Clima di Fiducia delle Imprese Italiane, IESE)—which covers the manufacturing, construction, market services and retail sectors—jumped from 81.4 in August to 91.4 in September.

The increase was driven by improved sentiment in all sectors; however, overall confidence remained downbeat. That said, sentiment in the construction sector grew more optimistic in the month.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see fixed investment diving 15.3% in 2020, which is up 0.4 percentage points from last month’s estimate. For 2021, the panel expects fixed investment to increase 8.3%.
