Exchange Rate in DR Congo
DR Congo - Exchange RateGrowth appeared to slow in the second quarter, as heightened trade tensions likely took their toll on the export-oriented economy. While average activity in the all-important mining sector gathered momentum in Q2, the rise in production was countered by lower global prices for base metals owing to an escalation in U.S.–China trade war tensions in May. This, coupled with falling gold and oil output in Q2, likely weighed on merchandise exports in the quarter. Meanwhile, the World Bank is considering to give as much as USD 5 billion to the country over the next five years. Additional financing would be a welcome boost for President Felix Tshisekedi’s costly social programs, although it would be dependent on the government committing to fiscal consolidation and a liberalization agenda.
