Reino Unido: Consumer confidence rises in May

Consumer confidence came in at minus 27.0 in May, up from April’s minus 30.0. May’s result marked the best reading since February 2022, and bodes well for private consumption in the second quarter. Despite the uptick, the index remained entrenched below the 0-point threshold, indicating pessimism among consumers.

Consumers grew less pessimistic regarding their personal financial conditions, general economic conditions and their willingness to make major purchases.
