United Kingdom: Adverse weather tempers industrial production growth

In December, industrial output grew 0.5% over the previous month in seasonally adjusted terms. The reading was virtually unchanged from November's 0.6% expansion and matched market analysts' expectations. Compared to the same month the year before, industrial production increased 3.6% (November: +3.2% year-on-year). December's reading was the result of a robust increase in the utilities sub-sector, which rose 6.1% over the previous month, reflecting the adverse weather that occurred during in December. However, manufacturing output unexpectedly declined 0.1%, undershooting market analyst expectations of a 0.4% expansion.
