Spain: Inflation accelerates in September

According to a preliminary estimate released by the National Statistical Institute on 29 September, annual inflation inched up from 3.0% in August to 3.1% in September, which marked the first acceleration in five months. Detailed data for August showed consumer prices increasing 0.1% over the previous month, contrasting the 0.5% drop in July. The monthly upturn was mainly the result of higher prices for leisure and culture. The core inflation index, which does not include prices for unprocessed food and energy, rose 0.2% over the previous month, contrasting the 0.9% drop recorded in July. The annual core inflation rate remained stable at July's 1.6%.
