Slovenia: Inflation ticks up in January
February 9, 2012
In January, consumer prices fell 0.5% over the previous month, which followed a 0.6% drop in December. According to the Statistical Office, the monthly fall was mainly driven by winter sales, with prices of clothing and footwear plummeting 16.0% over the previous month. Despite the monthly price drop, annual headline inflation accelerated from December's 2.0% to 2.3%. Annual HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) also rose from 2.1% in December to 2.3% in January. At its current level, Slovenian HICP inflation is below the January estimate of 2.7% for the entire Euro area.
