Slovenia: Industrial production records largest gain in nearly three years in December

In December, industrial production expanded 5.3% over the same month of the previous year. The increase followed the 2.6% expansion recorded in November and marked the largest gain since March 2011. According to the statistical office, December's increase mainly reflects an astonishing expansion in mining and quarrying as well as healthy growth in manufacturing output. Conversely, electricity, gas and water supply deteriorated in December.
On a monthly basis, industrial output increased a seasonally-adjusted 2.7% in December, which followed the 0.6% rise tallied in the previous month and represented the fastest acceleration since February 2013. In the full year 2013, industrial production declined 0.7%, which exceeded the 0.4% drop recorded in 2012.
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 1.4% this year, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month's Consensus. For 2015, the panel sees industrial output growth accelerating to 2.3%.
