Slovakia: Inflation steady in May

In May, consumer prices rose 0.1% over the previous month (April: 0.0% month-on-month). The monthly increase was driven by higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as for clothing and footwear.
As a result, annual headline inflation was unchanged at April's 1.7%. Meanwhile, annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) inched down from 3.1% April to 3.0% in May.
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect HICP inflation to average 2.4% this year, which is down 0.3 percentage points over the previous month's forecast. In 2014, the panel expects HICP inflation to inch up to 2.6%.
