Slovakia: Inflation drops to lowest level in nearly a year
March 12, 2012
In February, consumer prices increased 0.2% over the previous month, which was well below the 1.4% rise recorded in January. The monthly reading mainly reflected rising prices for transport, alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Owing to the subdued print, annual headline inflation inched down from 3.9% in January to 3.8% in February, marking the lowest level since April last year. Annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices), on the contrary, was unchanged in January - the last month for which data are available - at December's 4.1%. The Central Bank expects annual average HICP inflation to reach 2.8% in 2012 before moderating to 1.9% in 2013.
