Russia: Inflation picks up in June

In June, consumer prices rose 0.9% over the previous month. The result marked the highest month-on-month reading since January last year, coming in above both the 0.5% increase recorded in May and market expectations of a 0.6% rise. The increase was mainly driven by a pick-up in food prices. As a result, annual headline inflation rose from 3.6% in May to 4.3% in June. The core consumer price index, which excludes short-term price changes influenced by administrative and seasonal factors, rose 0.4% in June, which was above the 0.2% rise recorded in May.
