Romania: Inflation falls to new record low in March
May 11, 2012
In March, consumer prices rose 0.42% over the previous month, which was below the 0.64% rise recorded in February. The increase was the result of higher prices for fresh food items, on the back of harsh weather conditions, which disrupted supply chains. Annual headline inflation, however, fell from 2.6% in February to 2.4% in March, which matched market expectations and marked yet another post-communist era record low. Annual average inflation also dropped from 5.1% in February to 4.6% in March. The Central Bank expects inflation to end the year at 3.2% and to moderate to 3.0% in 2013.
