Romania: Inflation accelerates in February
March 10, 2011
In February, consumer prices increased 0.77% over the previous month, which matched the rise recorded the previous month. The increase mainly reflected higher prices for food, while non-food prices softened and prices for services remained flat. Annual headline inflation rose to 7.6% in February, after it had fallen a full percentage point to 7.0% in January. The jump surprised market analysts, who saw inflation rising to 7.4%. Annual average inflation rose from 6.2% in January to 6.5% in February. The Central Bank has set a 3.0% inflation target for this year with a 1.0 percentage point tolerance margin and expects inflation to end the year at 3.6%, before declining to 3.2% in 2012.
