Poland: Inflation moderates on lower transport and food prices

October 13, 2011

In September, consumer prices increased 0.1% over the previous month, contrasting the flat reading recorded in August. The September print reflected higher prices in the housing category, which were offset by lower prices for transport and food. Annual headline inflation fell from 4.3% in August to 3.9% in September, but remains above the Central Bank's target of 2.5% ( 1.0 percentage point) for a ninth consecutive month. Core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, edged up from 2.4% in September to 2.7% in August, the latest month for which data are available. The Central Bank estimates that inflation will end the year at 4.0%, before moderating to 2.7% in 2012.
