Poland: Industrial production accelerates in January

In January, industrial production expanded 9.0% over the same month last year, which was above the 7.7% increase observed in December but slightly below market expectations, which had industrial production rising 9.2%. According to the Central Statistical Office (CSO), output increased in a majority of the categories surveyed, particularly in the manufacture of metal products as well as in the manufacture of machinery and equipment. On a month-on-month basis, industrial production rose a seasonally adjusted 0.4% over the previous month, which was below the 0.8% rise seen in December. Moreover, the trend continues to deteriorate, with annual average growth in industrial production inching down from 7.0% in December to 6.9% in January.
