May 28, 2012
According to the Central Statistical Office's Business Tendency Survey (GUS-BTS), the general business climate index fell for the first time since December 2011, dropping from plus 0.9 points in April to plus 0.4 points in May. That said, the index remained above the zero-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism for the second straight month. In addition, business confidence remains 3.8 points below the level observed in the same period last year. In general, businesses were mostly optimistic about their expected production levels as well as regarding both expected domestic and foreign order books. On the other hand, businesses were mostly pessimistic about their ability to pay current debts.
