Peru: Economic activity stable in December

In December, economic activity expanded 5.0% over the same month of the previous year, which matched both the expansion tallied in November and market expectations. According to the statistical institute, the increase was seen across-the-board, with the largest improvements tallied in commerce, construction, services to firms and in transport and communications.
On account of December`s increase, the downward trend subsided as annual average growth in economic activity held steady at November's 5.0%.
For 2014, the Central Bank sees the economy expanding 6.2%. LatinFocus Consensus Forecast panelists expect GDP to expand 5.4% in 2014, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month's projection. For 2015, the panel expects the economy to increase 5.6%.
