Netherlands: Business confidence at highest level in nearly two years

The producer confidence indicator, which measures the sentiment of Dutch manufacturers, rose to a seasonally adjusted minus 1.6 points in August (July: minus 3.5 points), according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Although this is the highest level recorded since December 2011, the index has idled below the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment since June 2011.
According to the CBS, businesses were less pessimistic regarding stocks of finished products and projected output over the next three months than they were in July. Additionally, manufacturers' opinion regarding the level of their current orders was slightly less negative.
For 2013, the FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panel sees fixed investment contracting 4.5%, which is down 1.7 percentage points from last month. For 2014, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 1.1%.
