Netherlands: Business confidence drops in March
March 22, 2013
The seasonally adjusted producer confidence indicator elaborated by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) fell from minus 3.6 points in February to minus 4.8 points in March. As a result, the index remains well below the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment, where it has idled since June 2011.
According to the CBS, businesses were much more pessimistic about the expected level of output in the next three months. On the other hand, businesses seemed a bit less negative about their order positions as well as future employment and stocks.
For 2013, the panel sees fixed investment contracting 2.2%, which is down 0.9 percentage points from last month's Consensus. For 2014, the panel expects fixed investment to expand 1.7%.
