Netherlands: Business confidence drops to 30-month low
July 25, 2012
Business sentiment fell in July after a modest improvement in June. The seasonally adjusted producer confidence indicator elaborated by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) fell to minus 5.2 points from minus 4.8 points in June. Thus the index moved further below the 0-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment, and the reading marked, in fact, the lowest level recorded since January 2010. According to the CBS, the deterioration in business sentiment was driven by a shift to pessimism in the stocks of finished products amid weakening demand. Accordingly, opinions regarding the expected level of activity over the next three months remained pessimistic in July.
