Malaysia: Industrial output rebounds in April

In April, industrial production expanded 4.7% over the same month last year. The figure contrasted the 0.1% decrease observed in March and was above market expectations of a 1.6% increase. The April rise mainly reflected an improvement in manufacturing as well as in electricity output.
On a monthly basis, industrial production rose a seasonally adjusted 3.9% in April, which contrasted the 1.1% drop observed in March.
As a result of the annual increase in April, annual average growth in industrial production inched up from 3.4% in March to 3.5%. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panellists project industrial production to grow 4.3% in 2013, which is down 0.4 percentage points from last month's projection. In 2014, the panel expects industrial output to expand 5.2%.
