Malaysia: Industrial output accelerates in January
March 11, 2013
In January, industrial production expanded 4.6% over the same month last year. The print was above the 3.5% rise tallied in December but fell short of market expectations, which had industrial output rising 5.5%. The acceleration was broad-based, as all three main sub-categories improved over the previous month.
However, on a monthly basis, industrial production contracted a seasonally adjusted 0.8% in January, which followed the 2.0% drop recorded in December.
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panellists project industrial production to grow 4.2% in 2013, which is up 0.4 percentage points from last month's projection. In 2014, the panel expects industrial output to expand 5.1%.
