Lithuania: Inflation jumps in December
January 11, 2011
In December, consumer prices increased 0.8% over the previous month, following the flat reading recorded in November. Increasing prices for transport (+4.0% month-on-month) as well as for food and alcoholic beverages (+1.2% mom) were the main drivers behind the monthly price increase. As a result of the monthly price increase, annual headline inflation jumped from 2.7% in November to 3.8% in December. Meanwhile, annual average harmonised inflation stepped up from November's 1.0% to 1.2%, marking a third consecutive increase and matching Central Bank expectations for the full year 2010. The Central Bank expects harmonised inflation to average 2.3% in 2011.
