Korea: Consumer confidence unchanged in July

July 26, 2013

The Consumer Sentiment Index (CSI) published by the Bank of Korea remained unchanged in July. The reading of 105 is above the 100-point threshold separating optimistic from pessimistic territory.

While households felt more optimistic about their current situations, the improvement was offset by a deterioration in consumers' perceptions regarding their personal living standards and the domestic economic conditions in the next six months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panellists expect private consumption to expand 2.1% this year, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month's forecast. For next year, the panel sees private consumption accelerating to 2.9%.
