Italy: Consumer confidence drops in January to new record low
January 28, 2013
In January, the index of consumer sentiment published by ISTAT dropped to 84.6 points from the 85.7 recorded in December. The decline defied market expectations that had the index picking up to 86.1 and marked a further record low.
The deterioration was broad-based, as households turned more pessimistic regarding both the current and future situation of the general economy as well as regarding their current and prospective financial situation. In contrast, prospects for purchases of durable goods improved slightly compared to December.
