December 3, 2012
In October, retail sales expanded 19.0% over the same month last year, according to Bank Indonesia's Retail Sales Survey (RSS). The reading was slightly below the 19.2% increase observed in September (previously reported: +22.0% year-on-year). Sales of household equipment as well as of information and communication equipment led the expansion in October.
As a result of the strong monthly increase, annual average growth picked up from 12.6% in September to 13.6% in October. Moreover, according to the survey, retailers expect growth in short-term sales (three to six months ahead) to continue to rise.
