France: Industrial production expands in August
October 10, 2011
In August, industrial output rose 0.5% in seasonally adjusted terms over the previous month, which was below the revised 1.8% expansion tallied in July (previously reported: +1.5% month-on-month). Despite the slowdown, the monthly expansion defied market analysts' expectations, which had industrial output contracting 0.7%. On an annual basis, industrial activity rose 4.4%, which was above the 3.7% increase in July. The monthly deceleration seized all components, with the exception of the construction sector, which accelerated notably. Despite the deceleration the trend improved, with annual average industrial output growth inching up from 3.7% in July to 3.8% in August.
