Ecuador: Inflation moderates in January
February 7, 2011
In January, consumer prices increased 0.68% over the previous month, which was above the 0.51% increase recorded in December. The main drivers behind the monthly price rise were higher prices for food and alcoholic beverages, which rose 1.21% over December, as well as for clothing (+0.93% month-on-month). Despite the monthly increase, annual headline inflation inched down from December's 3.3% to 3.2% in January. The trend suggests a moderation in inflation, as the annual average inflation dropped from December's 3.6% to 3.4%.
