Ecuador: Consumer prices lose pace in March
March 5, 2011
In March, consumer prices increased 0.34% over the previous month, which was below the 0.55% increase recorded in February. The main drivers behind the monthly price rise were higher prices for healthcare, which rose 0.81% over February, as well as for food and non alcoholic beverages (+553% month-on-month). In spite of the more subdued price increase, annual headline inflation increased from 3.4% in February to 3.6% in March, mainly due to a base effect. The government expects inflation to reach 3.6% this year.
