Costa Rica: Economic activity slows in April

In April, economic activity expanded 7.2% over the same month last year, according to the monthly index of economic activity (IMAE, Indice Mensual de Actividad Economica). The reading was below the revised 7.6% expansion observed in March (previously reported: +6.9% year-on-year) and reflected slower, yet firm, growth in the manufacturing sector. On a monthly basis, economic activity expanded 0.28% in seasonally adjusted terms, which followed the 0.49% increase recorded in March. The trend continues to improve, with annual average economic growth rising from 5.6% in March to 5.9% in April, the highest level since June 2008.
