Colombia: Consumer confidence slips for a third consecutive month
January 3, 2011
In November, the Fedesarrollo index of consumer sentiment fell to 25.8 points from 30.3 points in October. The fall in consumer confidence continued a downward trend that began in September, after climbing to its highest level in nearly a decade in August. Despite the drop, the index of consumer confidence remains above the 0-point threshold, which separates optimism from pessimism. The deterioration in consumer sentiment was broad-based, as both major components of the index ? economic conditions and consumer expectations ? fell over the previous month. The deterioration in consumer confidence was led by a worsening in the index of consumer expectations, which declined from 37.6 points in October to 30.9 points in November. Simultaneously, the economic conditions index dropped from 19.3 points in October to 18.2 points in November.
