Colombia: Consumer confidence rebounds in February
March 11, 2011
In February, the Fedesarrollo index of consumer sentiment rose to 20.9 points from 16.3 points observed in January. The increase in consumer confidence came after five consecutive months of declining optimism among consumers. The increase mainly reflected improving consumer expectations, which increased 6.3 points over the previous month. In addition, the economic conditions sub-index added 2.1 points. As a result, the index moved further above the 0-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism. According to Fedesarrollo, the correlation between the consumer sentiment index and household consumption is 0.6.
