Colombia: Consumer confidence inches up in March

In March, the Fedesarrollo index of consumer sentiment rose to 21.2 points from 20.9 points in February. The 0.3-point increase mainly reflected an improvement in the economic conditions sub-index, which increased by 4.2 points to reach 14.5 points in March. On the other hand, consumer expectations deteriorated with the respective sub-index declining 2.5 points to settle at 25.5 points in March. As a result, the consumer confidence index moved further above the 0-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism. According to Fedesarrollo, the correlation between the consumer sentiment index and household consumption is 0.6.
