Colombia: Consumer confidence falls in February
March 14, 2012
The Fedesarrollo index of consumer sentiment deteriorated for the first time in four months in February, falling from 32.7 points in January to 26.8 points. That said, despite the deterioration, consumer sentiment remains 5.9 points above the level observed in the same month last year. The monthly deterioration was caused by a sharp decline in the consumer expectations sub-index, which fell from 39.4 points in January to 29.1 points in February. On the other hand, the component reflecting current economic conditions of households improved slightly from 22.7 points in January to 23.3 points. At the current level, the consumer confidence index remains well above the 0-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism, which bodes well for private consumption going forward.
