China: Industrial production rises in September
October 18, 2011
In September, industrial production climbed 13.8% over the same month last year, which was above both the 13.5% expansion recorded the previous month and market expectations that had industrial output moderating to 13.3%. Industrial production in September was mainly led by heavy industries, particularly the production of pig iron and cement. Seasonally adjusted data corroborate the improvement suggested by the annual figures, with industrial production expanding 1.20% over the previous month, which came in above August's 1.02%. Despite the stronger September print, annual average growth in industrial production remained stable at 13.8% for a fourth consecutive month.
