Chile: Consumer confidence remains notably optimistic

February 5, 2013

In January, the Adimark GfK consumer confidence index (IPEC, Indice de Percepcion de la Economia) inched down to 58.0 points from 58.1 points in December, which had marked the highest level in almost seven years. At the current level, confidence among consumers remains well above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism.

The slight deterioration came on the back of households' less optimistic assessment regarding their personal current economic situation. That said, consumers' assessment of the five year national outlook rose notably, reaching the highest level in over two years.
