Chile: Consumer confidence declines in November
December 9, 2010
In November, the consumer confidence index (IPEC, indice de Percepcion de la Economia) published by Adimark GfK dropped to 53.7 points from 56.5 points in October. Despite the monthly drop, consumer confidence remains above the 50-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic territory. Consumer confidence remains above the level registered in the same month last year, but is below the peak of 56.9 points, recorded in February 2010. The drop in consumer sentiment was broad-based, as all sub-categories deteriorated over the previous month. That said, the deterioration was mainly driven by a 4.4 point drop in the long-term national outlook as well as a 3.8 point fall in household purchases expectations. Meanwhile, current personal expectations only dropped slightly.
