Australia: Unemployment drops in December
February 17, 2011
In January, the economy added 24,000 jobs in seasonally-adjusted terms, after just 1,800 (previously reported +2,300) jobs were created in December. The increase was driven solely by new part-time jobs (+32,000), partly offset by the loss of 8,000 full-time positions. The number of total job seekers rose by 8,900 workers, breaking two consecutive months of decline. Taking the new job seekers into account, the unemployment rate was steady at the 5.0% recorded in December.
