Argentina: Consumer confidence soars in January
January 24, 2012
In January, the Universidad Torcuato di Tella (UTDT) consumer confidence index jumped 9.1% to 57.4 points from the 52.6 points recorded in December, marking the largest monthly rise since November 2010. With the January reading, consumer sentiment moved further above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism. Both sub indices relating to the general economic situation and to the personal economic situation improved strongly from the previous month's results. Accordingly, households' willingness to purchase durable goods also increased notably compared to December.
