Macedonia - IndustryIncoming economic data from Q2 is positive and suggests that the economy is gaining traction from Q1’s soft GDP print. Retail sales expanded at a solid pace in April and May, with the average growth reading for the first two months of Q2 trending significantly higher than the average reading in Q1. Business confidence in the manufacturing industry edged higher in June, while exports expanded at a double-digit rate annually in May. On the political scene, major political parties agreed on 30 July to hold a referendum on 30 September over whether to change the country's official name. A favorable outcome in the vote will put an end to the ongoing diplomatic dispute with Greece and unblock EU membership talks.
